Chefs Table Event
Each of the culinary courses at CTIA include that the students partake in a Chefs Table event. This event is where the students have the opportunity to showcase their skills and really go all out to impress! The event is entirely done by the students and they need to plan the event from start to finish. The aim is to teach students the soft skills needed in the hospitality environment as well as the importance of customer service, planning, preparation and very importantly, teamwork!
Students execute the event from start to finish, from conceptualising the event, the costing of items, menu planning, selling of tickets, working with suppliers, preparations and finally the mice-en-place that is needed leading up to the event. This semester’s event took the form of a food fair and students had different stalls with different types of cuisines. Visitors booked and paid for a ticket in advance and then had the choice of a variety of mains and desserts to sample at each stall. It was hugely successful.
The function was open to the public.

The graduation event, which happens twice a year, is the one event that students really look forward to. As part of the Diploma programme students’ chefs table, the senior students will take on the event and participate in the planning and execution of the event from start to finish. As it was a mid-morning event, this year’s guests were treated to a mid-morning patisserie buffet with a variety of sweet and savoury delights.
The graduation events took place at the Centurion Campus on the 11th of May 2018, and the Durban Campus had their very first graduation event on the 18th of May 2018. What a proud and momentous occasion it was!
