There’s never been a better time to pursue a career in hospitality
COVID-19 has dramatically reshaped the hospitality, tourism and travel industries worldwide. In South Africa, there has been a growing emphasis on reinvigorating the local tourism market as lockdown-weary citizens begin to explore their own backyard. A radical resurgence of tourism – locally, regionally and internationally – is anticipated to occur as more people are vaccinated, perceptions of herd immunity are strengethened and borders and airlines begin to re-open for business and leisure travellers. Polls have shown that pandemic-fatigued consumers can’t wait to dust off their passports. The pandemic has brought about an unprecedented shift, which has also revealed the need for fresh talent and ideas in a sector that has been forced to reinvent itself. In other words, the hospitality needs you, your dreams and your ambitions.
You’ll never be bored
Hospitality and tourism is a fun, fast-paced and ever-evolving industry. It is also one of the few sectors where more opportunities are unlocked the longer you stay in the industry. Many hospitality long-timers love how the domain allows constant opportunities for growth, change and renewal. While some workers love the interaction with customers and client-facing aspects, such as guest relations or front-office functions, others like being involved with the more strategic, bigger-picture side of things and often move into managerial roles. In this landscape, the sky truly is the limit.
Work in some of the world’s most beautiful places
From cruise liners, luxury yachts and seaside resorts to family-run B&Bs, international conference centres and game farms, you’ll have the opportunity to work in some of the world’s most scenic and sought-after destinations. Many of these are located right on our doorstep in South Africa, but with a CTIA hospitality qualification, the travel opportunities are endless.
At CTIA, we’re thrilled that the hospitality and tourism industries have come to value the need for bold new ideas, innovative thinking and a cohort of talented and skilled new graduates to help drive this change. We keep our finger on the pulse of what is happening at home and across the globe, and have put together a portfolio of training programmes that will keep our students right where they deserve to be: on the cutting edge of culinary and hospitality training. We’ve also made sure that sustainability is a key feature in our hospitality training.
When the pandemic struck, we wasted no time constructing a virtual campus to ensure our students wouldn’t miss a beat in their training curricula. Our streamlined online training offering means we can provide first-class programmes to more students in more places than ever before. Whether you’re in an urban hub or a remote town, we’ve got the training programme for you.
The four CTIA campuses (Centurion, Durban, Stellenbosch and Nelspruit) are located across South Africa’s key tourism and business hubs. We’ve spent years building up and nurturing relationships with top partners in the industry to unlock placement opportunities both locally and abroad for our students. These include exclusive game lodges, hotels, island resorts and more.
At CTIA, we continually update our curricula, courses and qualifications to ensure that students benefit from the latest developments in the landscape, and to maximise their prospects at career success. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a demand for programmes certified by national entities, and we are thrilled to announce that from 2022, we will be offering a host of new national qualifications in both our culinary and hospitality programmes. This also means that the majority of our courses will be dual certified, with students receiving both a national-level qualification as well as an international qualification – enabling them to seize career opportunities in South Africa and abroad.
CTIA has grown in leaps and bounds since opening its first campus, but at our core we remain a family operation – and that includes our students! When you join CTIA, you’re never just a number, but become part of an extended community of culinary and hospitality professionals.
