Well Done to Our CTIA Students Who Took Part in the Reaching for Young Stars 2020 Showcase

Every year, the One&Only Reaching for Young Stars showcase is held in the Western Cape and boasts the crème de la crème of top culinary academies in South Africa. This year’s culinary schools included the Chefs Training & Innovation Academy (CTIA), Capsicum Culinary Studio, the International Hotel School, and The Private Hotel School. World-class schools usually produce world-class students, and this year’s turnout was no exception. Each of the students during this showcase were not only vying for the supreme spot but got to enjoy shared experiences with fellow students in the same field. Students also had meaningful exposure to brands, products, and sponsors such as KitchenAid Africa, Bio-Wheat, SA Pork, Lancewood, and more.

What the Showcase Is All About

This year marked the showcase’s tenth year running and was generously hosted, once again, by One&Only in Cape Town. The showcase is a Showcook.com initiative and aims to provide a platform for young students to learn and advance their future careers. The initiative’s official executive chefs, cooks, pastry chefs, bakers, winemakers, and wine stewards also all came together to offer the students a growth path as young professionals and the opportunity to prove their culinary mastery.

What the Winners Can Expect

There are also prizes to be won. This year’s showcase winner in the pastry category, for example, will receive the esteemed title of the “One&Only Reaching for Young Stars Pastry Chef of the Year 2020” and will join Louis Jansen van Vuuren, Hardy Olivier, and DeVerra Auret for a three-month internship at the renowned Château de la Creuzette in France. Apart from their prizes, students will have had sought-after opportunities to receive feedback and mentoring from judges who are some of the top culinary experts in their respective fields. This exposure to new brands, new techniques, and world-class guidance from some of the best in the industry means that every participant leaves a winner.
